Hey all... please check out the Beta tab, it has yesterday's blog run in it. Please let me know if you see anything wrong. I think I worked out the special characters issue although in reality, that is a bigger issue for the whole site I need to work out. Please let me know if you see issues either on my blog or in the forum.
Getting a lot closer to migrating the blog process over, my tests so far looks like it'll take 20-30 minutes to run all of the blogs instead of the 5-6 hours(used to be 7-10+ before the database work I just did).

Given there's still time to sign up for Toddy's Completion Challenge Club Event Thingie, I'll get my preview GameCenter up early next week.
In other news, I have a 3 hour training to attend this afternoon. I'd much rather be...I dunno....stratching my nuts.
Back when the STEI was running, I introduced the world to GameCenter. A weekly Power Rankings run-down of the contest, down using a highly scientific formula to determine which team was the best each week (spoiler: Dacoto and I were really, really good).
Appearing either this afternoon or tomorrow (based off of my workload), the Completion Club Challenge (or, "Wow, this event needs a better name STATS!") GameCenter will launch with a preview for the insanity of next week whene everything kicks off on the 10th.
You still have time to get together a team and take part! There's plenty of people sitll looking for teammates (including event regulars: LAFTA, Frostbite, Bomber37, Krazie and IzaHova!) Get some friends, join in, and at least have the 360v teams out-perform the pair of TA teams that are taking part!

The easy answer is of course, those that knew exactly what it was that made me decide 360voice was not good for my continued mental well-being in the first place. It's not a coincedence that after Kill the Noise flaked out on the community and deleted his account (something, you'll note, I never actually did), I'd come back to help support the community.
Kill the Noise was one of the very vocal people whom decided to flood my email inbox and my LIVE messages with what I shall politely describe as "hate mail". Basically the amount of shit I got from users whom are no longer active made my life much better by dropping 360voice like a rotted, cancerous limb. Any other theories as to why I stayed away are, well, wrong. (I've heard some interesting ones in the past year!)
Thankfully, I'm in a different place now (better job [I haz an office! With a door!], deep enough in my graduate program I can manage time better, and not having to actually try and manage anybody!) It still says I'm staff, but it's basically an honorary title, like how Canada is referred to as a country.
Anyways, that's all bullshit I just had to get out of the way first. The important thing is that link at the top. Did you miss it? Really? Go click it. You see, that link brings you to what may be the last big community event of the Xbox 360 era. It will, of course, be awesome if you could take part.
Yes, you will lose. And lose badly. But winning has never been the point of 360v community events. The point is logging in every day or two, heading over to the forums, and simply taking part in the community. Winning or losing isn't the point, it's being active and helping to make this site better. You don't need to compose an epic post, or run your own event, just showing up, saying hi, and engaging with other site users is a win.
So if, in the past 7 years, you enjoyed using 360voice at any time, for any reason, go click that link, form a team with two of your friends or maybe just post you need teammates and form a team with two strangers. By the end of the event, you won't be strangers, and you'll be anxiously awaiting the next big event. Great news, finally got the Database rewrite(well, one part of it at least) done that I've been fighting for a few weeks. This data is around your historical score/tile history information. Don't expect to see anything unusual other than a pick up in speed, blogs should run a little faster. Your score screen/graph should be a lot faster as well.

A little better information on the used game thing, at least for those of us with multiple consoles, it sounds like the license still goes with your tag. Still up in the air but sounds like it's not as bad as it sounded at the start:

We know there is some confusion around used games on Xbox One and wanted to provide a bit of clarification on exactly what we’ve confirmed today. While there have been many potential scenarios discussed, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail.
Beyond that, we have not confirmed any specific scenarios.
Another piece of clarification around playing games at a friend’s house – should you choose to play your game at your friend’s house, there is no fee to play that game while you are signed in to your profile.

Seems like a dearth of games with legs since last Fall, Gears and Doritos are the only games that are making the top 10. And since Doritos is free I'm not sure it counts.

Made some progress on the DB restructure, I figured out how to "compress" the gamer info by eliminating days where score/etc. doesn't change. This alone reduces the amount of data from 335 Million to roughly 48 million rows. I was able to run a score lookup of all a person's data in .015 seconds instead of 19 seconds. Hopefully I can cut over soon...

Frostbite's Xbox - May 16 2013
I must seriously be losing it. Frostbite is saying that we played some games yesterday but I honestly don't remember it. Did someone use that Men-in-Black flashy thing on me? Our score is now 239314 somehow which is a gain of 10 points since last time... those are all points I will never get back.
Weird...
So, the battle continues. Learned more when I can run this process and not break other stuff. I could punt and try another approach, but it might not work any better, so stay stubborn and will get through this!

Day 2, the fight continues...
Up to 03 Jan 2008, 39 of 334 million records done. Finding this is going to take longer that I originally expected. Running this while daily jobs, especially Blogs runs is slowing down those things, so I had to stop last night so everything will run.
Starting later today, hoping I get through 6 months a day optimistically right now, so might be going for another 10 days, ugh. It's either that or lock up the site for a couple days.
FYI, site performance, it's possible you may see slow downs or it might take a minute for your comments to post for the next couple days.
I'm rebuilding/denormalizing the table that tracks each gamertag for each day(which has more rows that blog since we don't write blogs for people that don't play for 30+ days). This table is up to 334 million rows and it takes up 60GB.
I hope to get the size down to under 20GB and better than that, it will be organized/indexed better. Mostly, this will improve results when you look at your gamerscore chart. I'm planning a secondary update to work on all of our charts, there's a lot of new stuff out now that will make these charts run a lot smoother.

Finally finished Mass Effect 3... Sadly I had to play the last half of the game offline, every time it would try to save for me while connected, the whole console would freeze. At least I found a work around.
Back to some site work before I get distracted again. Got to get that blog rewrite done!

First off, anybody have problems with their profile and Mass Effect 3? The game freezes for me when I try to save now. I had this before and moved everything to my HD(I usually use a USB stick).
How long does it take to recover a large profile now days?
