This is not a review, yet. This is an invitation, for all of you gamers that have played Viking, to post your thoughts of the game. I've heard many people say they love it. Some claim it to be a sleeper hit. The reviews claim it to be slightly above average. So, what do you guys think. Let me know. I want to buy this game, but not if it is more of a rental.

The only thing I didn't like about Viking was the huge wars. They looked cool, but they didn't really play correctly. You should be able to kill multiple people at a time and have different movesets and things like that when there are hundreds of enemies on screen at one time.

I also thought I killed more than 10 with flame pots, but no achievement. Also, you really have to use the skills learned in the arena later in the game, especially the stealth skills.

I do enjoy playing this game and it's very good. But I have one questioned for those of you that have played it. The Flame pots? Did any of you have issues with this, because I know I've done more than 10 of them and the achievement still hasn't popped? I'm on the third island now and it seems like the difficulty of the game has increased a lot also. It's still do-able, just that now I can't just go in and hack and slash everything now.

If you have a PS2, and you played Mark of Kri or the sequel Rise of the Kosai, think of those games with DW/KUF series grand battles as the boss stages.

Short, very short. I bought it Tuesday (traded in some old GH2 guitars, and it was on sale at GameStop, even trade) and I am about to finish the last fight.

I did not do the full 1000/1000 GS, so I do have at least 1 replay. :)

I actually really enjoyed the game. I didn't feel it was too repetitive and the Hard mode was challenging, but not near impossible so it was a perfect difficulty level. I thought the gore was entertaining almost as much as the huge battles. The sneaking around was also very intriguing since you think a Viking would be nothing more than a hasty brute. The story never really faltered and the gameplay never seemed to drop into the boring range. All in all it was quite an enjoyable game to play.

I can't wait to play Viking. I was gonna buy it (seeing as how EB Games has it for $30) but bought Ninja Gaiden II instead. Either way, I would love to see Viking Two (if there will ever be such a thing) to be more like Oblivion. That would be fantastic!

Thinking of getting this when it gets to a reasonable price, looks pretty fun. Plus Brian Blessed is in it.

I really liked Viking. I rented it and dark sector and I went back and bought Viking. It is the sleeper hit of 2008 IMO. Best game I didn't see coming this year easy. It's one part Conan + 1 part MGS with a healthy dose of RPG elements and strategy thrown in. Fantastic game the only downside to this game would be the graphics -although good are not great by today's standards overall I give it 8.5/10 This game should be in any fan of Fantasy action games library!
Cheers

The game is just... ok. It had good intentions but the developers really dropped the ball in several spots. The cinematics are as bad as a first gen Xbox game. The characters have no facial expressions. Their lips don't move. You have these extreme close-ups of lifeless characters. The sound editing is even bad. Some cases the explosions were extremely loud and then when you expect a big boom you get little thud. There are clipping problems galore. It also felt like they had 3 different development teams. One for each area in the game. The last area they drew out the game by making you run long distances to complete your objectives. Really bad design.

The gameplay is ok. It's fun to do the finishes, but again the sound and combination of other elements made it seem lacking. The boss fights would be better if the camera angles weren't horrible. Also, they seem to enjoy illuminating the characters from the ground up in the boss fights. It's hard to tell what is happening at first, but since you will have the same battles repeatedly you will figure it out. The achievements do help the game move along. You do have a sense that you are accomplishing something no matter how long you sit down to play. The graphics are nice for a majority of the game. It's not quite next gen level but it's not bad. The whole game seemed like a port of an old xbox title to me. The story is forgettable. Overall its enjoyable if you have nothing else to play or you just want something a little different. One play through was enough for me though.

Arts and I are pretty much in agreement on everything except replayability value, which obviously is very subjective.

I liked that their were 50 achievements, they kept popping up all the time. lol

The skull achievements were slightly challenging, and the last achievement in the game while not being that difficult would require you to play the ENTIRE game over if you fail to get it. Nothing like a little pressure to get your heart rate going!

I would definitely play a sequel, especially if they add more Special creatures that you can do "God of War" style kills on.

Thanks for the review, Arts. I'll definitely be renting this.

This game is completly underrated.

It starts off slow but depending on how you play things can get flowing from the start. If you like me downloaded the videos a while back and thought it does look cool but had your doubts then stop doubting it and go get it!

It's a traditional hack and slash with small RPG elements. You can upgrade your moves and that's about it. You can freely go where you like and choose what you want to do first out of the given objectives. The graphics are top notch and the atmosphere is just perfect. All these combined immerses you enough into enjoying it. The real fun begins when you get to the point of starting Skirmishes or full scale battles. Literatly hundreds and hundreds of opponents aswell as friendly AI going at.

The achievements are far too easy for what they are. 500 Kills? No problem you can easily end up with this on the first level if you wanted. The achievements are the only thing I think they didn't think too much about because I would have actually welcomed a 30000 kills achievement.

It is an easy 1000 points but I don't agree there is no replay value. It is true I have not spun the disc since gaining all the points but it does draw me into thinking hell ill have another shot - just because it is enjoyable!
