Yes and no. You can hook up a hard drive, but you cannot store game files on it, only music and videos of your own (not downloaded from the marketplace). I wish they'd allow you to hook up any laptop hard drive, thats all the 360 hard drives are, 2.5inch hard drives with a different shell, you crack that case open and that is whats inside. You can buy 320gig laptop hard drives for under $120, and 120gig ones go for $60-$70. The markup to put it in a special plastic case and slap an Xbox logo on it is pretty intense. |

Plus you have to rip all the rock band 1 songs onto it also. |

That's why I really hope they'll lower the 120gig price.
They might lower the price when they come out with a 250 Gig version. Is it possible to even hook up your own drive via USB? Not sure M$ would allow it since they don't get any money, but that would make life much easier.
My 20 gig drive is hovering at 6 gig of free space and I have been putting off buying that 120 giger, until I completely run out of space. |

Posted - Jul 21 2008 : 08:30:42 AM I'm glad to see that is an option and not required. That would suck being forced to play it off the HD for every game.
Only time I would put one on the HD would be if it's like the one game I will play every day over and over. |

Posted - Jul 21 2008 : 07:34:59 AM Also glad here that we have the Elite, but I think even if you have a 20Gb Pro model this will be a benefit as long as you can fit that game you play most often or maybe the game that has the most annoyingly long load times. |

Posted - Jul 20 2008 : 11:02:32 PM I got my Elite last month, and just started playing Lost Odyssey :) And it's 16 degrees celcius here and raining all day so I'd say that qualifies for fall.. Bring it on! ;)
But yeah, a 20 GB hdd isn't helping that much with this installer procedure. I'd like to see some kind of discount; buy a 60 GB, transfer your stuff and send your 20 GB in to get $something back. Don't really expect MS to do that though.. |

Posted - Jul 20 2008 : 6:20:40 PM You won't be forced to upgrade. You'll always have the option of playing off the disc, this is just a bonus for those who want to play off the hard drive. The hard drive will never be required to play games on the Xbox. |

Posted - Jul 20 2008 : 5:42:28 PM You better have the option of simply playing games off the disk. Otherwise not even an empty 20g HDD will hold the monster that is Final Fantasy 13. If Lost Odyssey was 4 disks, just imagine what *THAT* one will be like?
Bah. I hate being forced to upgrade, it's why I stopped playing games on my PC. |

I would've thought maybe 2 or 3...
From wikipedia (source of all knowledge didn't you know! )
"DVD — Capacity: 4.7 GB (single layer), 8.5 GB (dual layer)"
So...why would a 20GB only be able to hold one? I suppose they might have to uncompress it or something but surely it couldn't get as big as 20GB?

The drive is 20gigs unformatted, formatted its about 17. a bit over 2 of that is reserved for use by games (like Oblivion and such, which install a small portion to improve load times), leaving you with just over 14 for your own use. So like Bill said, you can fit one game if its filling the DVD, two if they're small. But this assumes you don't have many themes, movies, music, or downloaded content (Hello Rock Band songs!) on it as well. |

Posted - Jul 20 2008 : 2:08:10 PM It depends on what else you have on there and what game. After all of the system memory, you should have about 13 GB of hard drive space. That should be enough to fit any one game, or possibly two games if they're kind of small. |
