Posted - Nov 26 2008 : 3:23:35 PM I know there are a bunch of topics like this all over the web and i just wanted to add my 2 cents.
First the good:
The campaign- was awsome loved every min of it! although the ending "final boss" to me was a big let down. I mean in the 1st gears it was an epic battle to beat the game this had me saying afterwards...thats it? i was expecting more of a challenge, thats all. other than that the co-op was still great they went a little more indepth w/ the characters.
Horde- wow just wow this is some of the most fun i have ever had playing a game w/ 4 other people. the 1st night me and my buddies jumped on the and got to lvl 25 on insane it took us all morning but w/ everything that was going on and everybody killing/dying it was a great new feature in the game.
now on to the bad:
Multiplayer- it started off innocent enough all everybody did was use the lancer now we're back to the shotty as soon as we figured out two piecing(melee then shoot them w/ ur shotty) someone was the best way to kill. Then came the chainsawing horde we all know how impossible it is to avoid getting chainsawed. it shouldn't be that way and the best thing i have found is to melee before they get "lock in" to the chainsaw move. i like that people now get hurt doing this but it's at the lost of ur teammate. ok so besides all that hands down the worst thing is the new match making. look my clan has shut down our Gears 2 divison and i really can't blame them. friday and saturday we spent both of those days trying to get into matches w/ 5 people in our party. we were only able to get into 7 matches in 2 days. Come on how hard is it really to fix this. and there spending more time worrying about some kid that hacked it to get free golden weapons that make no difference on performance. now before this weekend the few matches we got in during the week everybody ended up lagging out to the point where just did private matches.
as frustrating as actually playing online is i.e. shotgun not being consistaint, the insane amount of people that only chainsaw, people lagging completely out of the game, the ranking system and not being able to find matches in a decent amount of time i was willing to put up w/ all of that because i was such a big gears1 fan and Call of Duty:World at War is just another crappy WWII game. i was willing to play untill one day a patch was made and all was well again. Now i don't know what i'm gonna do... |

GOW 2 is soooo slow and laggy its just not fun. Between the chainsaw and 2 piece its just not responsive enough to move out of the way when you know that the person is going to chainsaw you. I also hate the fact that they choose what mode and map I play. I paid for the game and I want to choose execution and what map I like just like in Gears 1. Anyways I never thought I would say this but GOW 3 will be a rental until I see if they fixed these horrible issues. P.S. Cliff the game should contain what the players want not what you want.
Well said
I just played it with my clan tonight, i have never got more pissed off at a game is SOOO long then i have tonight. |

Naw, the chainsaw is a way to punish those that think they're awesome with the shotgun or don't have to pay attention to their surroundings or those that can't think beyond one way to get a kill or those that have a deep desire to be "cool" or "pro" and set themselves up for the dumbest deaths ever.
The chainsaw is a tool that you can use when the situation calls for it. If people keep falling for the "cheap kill" then maybe they should, I dunno, stop missing with their shotguns and learn to shoot?
Amen to that, IF it wasn't for the fact that the chainsaw seems to have a so called Vacuum effect. Which means shotgun is useless vs connection. Still, it's in the game for a reason. |

Posted - Jul 22 2009 : 9:30:14 PM Chainsawing is cheating,
It's just a way for n00bs to get a cheap kill rather then learning how to shoot. |

Posted - Jul 22 2009 : 5:54:15 PM i dont own the game but ive finished the campaign and played quite a bit online and from wat ive seen u really cant get games unless u know other ppl that play thats why i normally just play a lot of horde which is always pretty fun |

Posted - Jul 21 2009 : 8:55:20 PM I 100% agree with you on everything you said in your review. The end of the campaign was a bit of a let down, just like the online side of things has become as well. They constantly keep updating it to try and fix things, but seem to add more problems every time.
And I don't see chainsawing as cheating, but because of the lack of connection stability the chainsaw does seem to overpower many weapons at quite a few different points in multiplayer matches. |

Do you guys see people who only use chainsaws as cheating ?
or do you just see it as unfair ?
Honest question tbh ... |

Posted - Jan 02 2009 : 6:02:41 PM I got tired of Gears 1's multiplayer after a relatively short while, also, compared to most Xbox owners. I enjoyed playing through on Insane, though, little by little (by myself until the end).
I've only played a couple multiplayer matches of GOW2 and I'm not too impressed with the experience either. I'm really liking co-op and Horde, though. There needs to be more cooperative experiences. Remember all of the multiplayer arcade games like sidescrolling Xmen? Horde kind of gives us that dynamic. |

1. Resistance is in beta afaik, that means its got like a max of 10,000 people playing it, Live has : a few million? :D
2. The servers for PSN might be hosted by sony, but when your playing gears online its between your 360's and so it depends generally on teh weakest link.
3. It should be better, but it isn't. if its that bad, just stop playing ¬_¬; Dont compare live to what sony offer. They might have 60 man dm's going but with no real support for messages, avatars, achievements, voice chat, etc dont tell me live isn't better.
resistance has been out in america since the 4th of november i got my hands on it a week early in the uk. there are way more than 10,000 people playing it ahah.
i do understand how the 360s live service works but surely they should get some dedicated servers in. i have a good internet connection so i dont understand why im paying for lag...
i do like my 360 dont get me wrong and the avatars and achievements are a nice touch i didnt really bring them into it im just saying they need to sort the service out because at the end of the day its not just me who feels the same way about it atm its atrocious for most games which is a real shame. |
