Everyone has a valid opinion, some people just dislike being in first-person.
I for one am all for it (first-person that is).
Edit: It would be great if every game had the ability to switch views on the fly, but that would require more work from developers who are usually already stretched thin for time. Maybe they could work on a DLC patch to make both views available, that would be the best!
I disagree. The thing is, that First person is NOT like really being in the game because you totally lack peripheral vision. Now over the shoulder like Gears? To me that is more like really being in the game.
Since there is no way to truly give you peripheral vision in a first person view without either multiple displays or some kind of 3 D gaming, I think 3rd should always be an option. Walking around in the classic first person view is like walking around with blinders on, or your face glued to binoclulars.
Also, it wouldn't be difficult to implement at all. Since all they have to do is pull the camera back. The character is already rendered, as you can clearly see in multiplayer of the other players on the map, and as illustrated in other games, it would be as simple as adding a button to change the view.
Another good example of this is Rainbow 6 Vegas, enter a code and whammo! 3rd person, which is exactly how I played the game. |

Posted - Oct 26 2009 : 8:39:57 PM "That footage of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 being played in the third person? Totally legit. The external camera view, a surprise late addition from Infinity Ward, is limited to the game's multiplayer mode. How limited? IW explains.
"3rd Person is a new playlist mode in Multiplayer," says Infinity Ward's creative strategist Robert Bowling. "So you can play your favorite playlists [or] game types, like Team Deathmatch just standard, or in Hardcore mode ([with] limited HUD and increased bullet damage) or in the new 3rd Person mode, which means you and everyone in the game is in 3rd person."
That's right. Everyone will be playing in third person view in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer games of that type—and only games of that type—games clearly labeled as such, ensuring a level playing field, says Bowling.
"When you're in a 3rd Person playlist you can't toggle in and out, you're always in 3rd person," he says, adding "You can't toggle 3rd person view on or off in a standard game type either, people in 3rd person can't play with people in 1st person, they're entirely different game modes. This is just another way to play the game."
"Also, 3rd person, 3rd person, 3rd person," Bowling summarized, which, when you think about it, makes a lot of sense."

Posted - Oct 26 2009 : 7:58:44 PM hmm... very interesting. GRAW's first person just seemed very weird to me, i couldnt play in it when i cant see my gun, just the reticle, and i know the original ghost recons were the same way, but still felt very strange, so i would always play 3rd person. but i feel like CODs first person works, so they shouldve just left it as is. |

I know and i'm glad i'm just responding to the people who believe it should be an option for all of the game. :] |

Posted - Oct 26 2009 : 4:14:34 PM It wouldn't be an option anymore in COD. In order to play at the same level of some one who can see around corners in 3rd person and see people sneaking up behind them I would have to turn on third person. A good example being Graw. No one used 1st person because you couldn't see around corners or cover. Letting it be an option in private matches and coop? Sure im all for that but the ranked playlists? Please no I like to play COD in 1st person. |

Posted - Oct 26 2009 : 4:07:07 PM 3rd person in a 1st person game, no thanks. i don't want that when playing online i meet someone playing as 3rd person looking around corners without the person itself visible at all |

Posted - Oct 26 2009 : 3:46:48 PM Metallica I agree with you on the options. Developers need to learn that us gamers love OPTIONS!! In my Shooters I want 1st person. In Simulators (flight or driving) I need 3rd person.
It would be nice to have the option to switch betweeen 1st and 3rd in SP. In MP everybody should be stuck with the same view. Which it sounds as if that's the case with this one. |
