Things in my life have stagnated since I started gaming on the 360... it started slow, but recently I've been really noticing the effects.

So I've been thinking recently about taking a break from the 360 and do other stuff for a month or two. I'm not talking resisting turning it on and occasionally playing... I'm talking loaning it to a friend to play with for a while. With the ability to copy/move things to USB sticks, I'd just back-up all the savegames/themes/etc I have and ship it off to a friend with whichever games they wanted...

However, there are at least two games coming out in the near future that I must play - Puzzle Quest 2 on the 22nd of June and Lego harry Potter a week later.

Looking at Gamestop's upcoming games, the next one that I feel I _must_ play is Fallout New Vegas, which is in October. O_o Are there other games that have flown under my radar? Am I completely nuts for trying to reverse my addiction?

Which is what I'm doing! Only, I know I have little willpower when it comes to games, so I'm having to take drastic measures.

This topic kind of amuses me. I know that no matter how I say this it will sound kind of rude so I will just say it as straight as possible.

If you really feel you need a break from gaming then find something else to fill that time (Golf and Youth Basketball Coaching has been mine). I didn't even make a conscious choice to go weeks on end without playing... it just naturally happened.

My kids and wife don't get it. They still keep giving me gifts of Games/Accessories and Gamestop Gift Cards that I continually don't use. Well, not entirely true. I wanted to play Red Dead and have been but Bioshock 2, Left 4 Dead 2, my new Controllers and over $100 in Gift Cards are going unused.

Good luck in all your endeavors... but remember, if something is feeling like a compulsion or is taking up time you want for something else... the only way to change it is to get up and do those other things. =)

So I wanted to update you peeps about my plan on this. The release of the Xbox 360 S(exy/lim) complicates things, but I still plan on taking a break from 360 gaming.
See, I have the dead system that went t.u. in November... I can use that as the trade-in and only get ~$65 for it, retaining my currently working system. However, I have though about finding someone to buy/trade a japanese console from, so I can play import games on it.

Of course... I still could exchange the currently working one (bought in Dec) for the higher trade-in value and just sell the old one for parts... putting the money toward a JP console, seeing as a straight exchange is less likely to happen.

On the "not playing the system" front, I know someone I'd trust to take care of the S while it's not under my control... The household includes a 7 yr old child who has a great track record with the PS3, but it means they won't be able to use my entire library of games.

Honestly man, taking a break isn't the worst idea. Some who play a lot need the break from time to time. I'm actually on a decline too, I haven't played nearly as much lately as I did this time last year. It's nice to get out of the house and do something different once in a while rather than choosing to game. I've put my friends and my health ahead of my gaming recently and I've been having a blast, I still play but not as often and not for as long.

Have to say I'm currently on a break as well (and why I've been absent from here), not completely by choice but also was starting to happen anyway (I say not completely by choice since my 360 E74'd and then someone stole my HDD and the store they sold it to wiped my data before I could get it back... ...yeah rude...), working on trying to grow a relationship, company I work for being sold, tons going on at the house... just sorta happened naturally that I haven't played... I am starting to friggin' go nuts though, especially after E3, seeing RB3 with pro guitars...

I took about a 5 month break from playing seriously the end of last year. It was nice to have more time to spend with friends and I had a lot of fun even though I wasn't playing xbox. It didn't bother me that my gamerscore wasn't increasing or that I was missing out on boosting different games. I don't regret taking a break at all.

I kind of got back to playing once I got involved in a pretty serious challenge that I wanted to win. Now with the STEI I am more serious about getting achievements than ever, but if it weren't for having fun with friends here I probably wouldn't be playing much either.

Like t4nd4r says, just do what you feel will make you happy!

I too have been playing less, bunch of things have been going on lately.

If you feel like letting your friend borrow it and you don't mind being away from your Xbox then go ahead!

Do what you feel will make you happy!

Hey, gotta do what you gotta do. At the end of the day, even though we all love them and display varying degrees of addiction, they're still just video games. If there are any super awesome games, they'll still be out when you come back to the box...AND they'll most likely be cheaper! :-)
