Posted - Jul 14 2007 : 4:17:12 PM i don't know about y'all, but i thought this was a really boring e3. and i don't think it had anything to do with the smaller size and lack of fans. i think the focus was on the games instead of hardware, but really, we'd already heard about most of the games and while it was cool to see some in-game footage, it really didn't do much to increase or decrease my feelings about them going in. while i think we've all got some very cool games to look forward to this fall and spring 08, i don't feel much more psyched about, say, bioshock, than i did a week ago. how about you? |

Posted - Jul 16 2007 : 2:03:35 PM Ok, that was for people that my still want to play through the other MGS games =P
If your referring to MGS3; as stated in the previous post, chronologically that is the first game in the Metal Gear universe... and Snake from it is not the snake from the rest of the series. MGS3 takes place in 1964, and at the end of the game "Naked Snake" takes the title of "Big Boss" (whom is mentioned in pretty much every game after; main enemy of the earlier generation Metal Gear games)
As we come to find out in MGS1 or 2 (can't remember which) the current "Snake" ("Solid") is a clone of Big Boss (as well as "Solidus" from 2 and "Liquid" from 1 and somewhat of 2). Unfortunately the cloning wasn't perfect so a few years past MGS2, Snake begins aging rapidly (Liquid probably would have as well; but since he's "in" Revolver Ocelot (Liquid Ocelot in 4) its impossible to tell (Ocelot was in MGS3 when he was 20... which puts him at 70+ years old)
EDIT- To correct the earlier post, the PSP game was MGS: Portable Ops, not AC!D... I just tend to think of the AC!D games when it comes to the PSP =P |

Posted - Jul 16 2007 : 1:12:30 PM That depends on if your referring to MGS2 or 3
-EDIT- I guess I'll answer both... but before I do

Posted - Jul 16 2007 : 12:59:59 PM I never played the Metal Gear games because it was on the PS2 and Playstation. I want to play this one even if I don't understand the story.
The only question I have is, why is Snake so old all of a sudden? In the last game he looked really young. Unless it jumped far ahead into time. |

The first question would have to be, did you play the other MGS games?
Being that this is the last MGS game that Kojima is working on... and the final story of Snake period; it should be a necessity to play the other games to get the back story. May even need to play the original Metal Gear games on older systems if they decide to tie up ALLLL lose ends. (which MGS3 is the first game in the series chronologically; followed by Metal Gear AC!D 2 I think)
The beginning part of the Trailer refers to Foxdie and includes Meryl Silverburg and Revolver Ocelot; Foxdie and Meryl are from 1, so if Ocelot.. but his "problem" refered to (Liquid) doesn't manifest itself until the second. Also the "Ninja" from the second half (as far as what he is) is from 1.
Who the ninja is, is from 2...
This years trailer was more eye candy than anything... the 15 minute trailer from last years E3 tells more of the story. |

Posted - Jul 15 2007 : 9:11:53 PM You guys are too hard to please, we got a Blue Dragon demo!
I thought it was a decent E3, if you followed all the coverage from the press conference, marketplace, online and even G4TV extended coverage (as much as they stretched it out).
I think a lot happened behind doors that sounds good, and I think once a few deadlines break for coverage we are going to get some good info, then we have PAX, TGS, X07 a lot of shows and time to release info.
It doesn't make a lot of sense to make huge announcements when there are so many big franchises coming out so soon.

Posted - Jul 15 2007 : 7:52:58 PM Last year had the lost planet demo which i thought was pretty awesome coming back from E3 but yeah this year there wasn't anything that really truly amazed me. There were good games but ehh |

The only two things that amazed me was the new trailer for H3 and some gameplay of Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. The game looks amazing and I can't wait for it to come out. |

Posted - Jul 15 2007 : 02:55:28 AM I was very excited and impressed not with the actual press conferences or conventions, but the media that came out of these presentations. With the boatload of game videos that hit the Marketplace earlier this week, I was more than blown away but the amount of money I'm going to have to save up, because there are way too many games I need to buy. Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, Halo 3, and Assassin's Creed to name a few. The Xbox 360 Montage video on the Marketplace was more than enough to get me super stoked for the coming fall lineup.
If you really want to see why E3 this year was so exhilarating for me, head on over to the New Arrivals area of the Game Videos section in the Marketplace and download the Xbox 360 Games Montage. |

Posted - Jul 14 2007 : 4:56:56 PM I mean I wasn't thrilled about the games. I've seen most of them and the other stuff either I didn't care about or didn't really have a good video, like RE5. Sorry, I don't get excited by what Penny Arcade refers to as the bullshot. As for the format though, I thought it was good. More about the games and less filler crap, although a lot of the speakers did their share of wasting time. I just wish they had better trailers. |

Thats what I think the problem is. Which all this information already shown on the internet, most of the stuff they talked about was kinda old news. I guess they'll have to keep this kind of stuff secret until E3 comes. |

Posted - Jul 14 2007 : 4:52:06 PM I think this year's E3 was just another E3. I wasn't expecting to be overwhelmed with it so they couldn't underwhelm me either.
I'm not super-stoked for any game that I wasn't because like you said, I had already heard all of the news and seen most of the trailers. But that's been a symptom of the last few years worth of E3's. With the expanded TV coverage and the sites like GameTrailers.com, there's not much they can surprise us with anymore.
It wasn't super great nor was it super sucky...it was simply another E3... |

Posted - Jul 14 2007 : 4:50:18 PM I agree hearing about games most of us knew about for months was not exciting. But since this is the first year of the revamped format I'll let them slide. Maybe next year will be better. |
