This is entry #2 to the series. Entry #1 can be found here, but here is the general description of the feature:
My employer is one which I am able to check out various game titles we currently have in stock. I came to an impasse the other week when staring at a wall of Xbox 360 games to try out, I just couldn't decide what to check out. With the backing of a couple of people, I decided to embark on what I dubbed "The A to Z Experiment." Starting from the beginning of what is available to me, I am attempting to run through the catalog of games from A to Z, no matter how horrible or how uninterested I am in the game.
The breakdown is as follows: I have five days to play through the game before I have to give it back. Through that time, I will post a review of that game on day six, on my personal blog, GemuBaka. I will also be doing an achievement breakdown - my goal for each game is 50% completion, which would be 500 points per retail game. If I reach my goal, I get a thumbs up (which I guess would be like leveling up), if not, I get a thumbs down.
I thought I was going to end up with Ace Combat 6 this time, but no dice. The next title on the wall: Afro Samurai. The review of the game itself can be found here if you're interested.
Afro Samurai Achievements nestlekwik 5-day total: 540 of 1,000 points (66% achievements unlocked) Achievement difficulty rating: 4 of 5
While Afro Samurai has a good chunk of easy achievements, it also has some very time-consuming achievements that have the potential to drive a player mad. While it's easy to pad the killing achievements, it's going to take time and dedication to muster all of the hidden items, leveling up and tackling the game on hard. However, if you're just into the game to have some fun, getting 50% of the achievement points isn't that much of a stretch.
Clearing the Game: This one will just take time and practice. While the general enemies won't be much of a threat, specialized enemies and bosses can put the hurt on you on hard mode if you're not careful and don't learn their patterns. A total of 475 points come from just beating the game - you tally individual achievements while playing on normal, with each totaling 275, and completing the game on hard tacks on an additional whopping 200 points in a single achievement. If you're stressed at a certain point in the game, there are plenty of walkthroughs and guides online. With only a handful of days with the game, I opted to shoot for other achievements instead of attempt the game on hard difficulty, so here are some thoughts on those ....
Killing achievements: You will receive a large amount of these naturally by merely progressing through the game. There are a small handful that will require players to go through the game multiple times (killing 2,000 for example). These aren't hard, they just require a lot of time. Certain areas such as in level two where Afro needs to raise the training grounds bridge feature respawning enemies that can light up your totals, but be mindful of the following for achievements - there is an achievement for decapitating enemies (parry an attack, press A, then press X), perfectly splitting enemies in half (focus, hold Y until you see a shine at the end of your blade and release), spilling 2,000 gallons of blood (check your total in the options menu), obtaining skills through experience, etc. Just check the full list of achievements and attack accordingly.
Memento achievements: I can't tell you how many levels I got four out of five items on during my time with the game. If I had more time and patience, there are plenty of guides online detailing the locations of each memento. Every stage has five momentos (a memory from Afro's father represented by a small murder of crows) and if you find each one within a level, you unlock a special move and 5 achievement points. With the low score associated with each, it wasn't too good of a payoff for me to concentrate on these. But if you have a lot of dedication and patience or just use an online guide, these should come to you over time - also, remember, since these unlock skills, you'll need to find all 45 mementos to unlock The Number One (100 points) once you unlock every single skill in the game through leveling up.
Body Part Poker Achievements: Accomplishing this is fairly annoying when there are tons of enemies around (especially ones with firearms), but I had to return the game once I got the gist of this. Check your achievements to see what enemy type you need and and find an area where you can target that type. For a straight flush, you need to lop off one head, one arm and one leg. To get a head, just use the X button after a pounce (parry, press A), but for enemies that reverse the pounce move, you'll have to aim high with X button focus attack. The leg and arm will also require a focus attack, but with the Y button at the side. Obviously, later enemies will make these tasks a lot more annoying for you, I think once you get the hang of it, you'll find this isn't as hard as it seems.
With another game under my belt, I barely squeak by yet again with a 500. Another week, another thumbs up, putting me at 2-0. The A to Z experiment will continue with yet another game on Aug. 29. |

| This is a great idea, I'm interested to see which games offer some quick points. x360a has some great guides but they only ever tell you how long to 1000 the game, as I'm not a completionist per say. It's nice to know which games offer half their point or more for a quick playthough. I shall certainly be keeping my eye on this. Good job. |

| I bought the game couple of days ago, it is really a fun game. Still need to get the hang of cutting certain body parts off though. |
