Introduction: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the second annual Skyline Achievement Tower Challenge!
Start date: Signups are now closed. We have 56 players to fill 14 teams. Teams are now being randomly generated by fellow Events Team member futiles. Once teams are selected, the Skyline Build thread will open, and each team can post who will be building on February 1st.
Rules: Players will be randomly split (by a contracted Kansas-based third party) into 4-member teams. Each day your team will select one of its members to build onto his or her tower. The towers of course are made out of achievements. If it is your day to build, you must earn at least one more achievement than the current height of your tower. If successful, tower height increases by 1. Starting height is 0.
Each member has his or her own tower so that your team has 4 towers in total (the skyline).
Bonuses: New this year is the introduction of bonuses, in the form of gold bricks.
- Every retail completion earned by any teammate while the team is still active earns the team 1/2 of a gold brick.
- Every arcade completion earns the team 1/4 of a gold brick.
- Each team can store up to 10 gold bricks at once.
- Completions will be automatically picked up the day after they are achieved
- Once per day a team has the option of delivering any chosen amount of bricks to one other team. That is to say, if Team A is sitting on 3 1/2 gold bricks and wishes to use 3 against Team B, then a team member from Team A may post in the Skyline Brick Dropping thread declaring the bonus. At that point, editing the post is not permitted, and will nullify the bonus usage as well as empty the team's storage of gold bricks.
- A team can only have bricks dropped on them once in a day.
When a team has bricks dropped on them, the bricks become red, and the following day, the team must build through the red bricks in addition to building onto the tower. - A team can share responsibility for the red bricks.
- Red bricks are permanent additions to towers.
Example: Team Red Rampage Day 1: Player A successfully earns 1+ achievements Day 2: Player B successfully earns 1+ achievements Day 3: Player B successfully earns 2+ achievements The team receives 2 red bricks on day 3 Day 4: The team decides that Player B and Player C will split the red bricks. Player B successfully earns 3+ achievements (one red brick) Player C successfully earns 2+ achievements (daily build + one red brick) Day 5: Player B successfully earns 4+ achievements Day 6: Player D successfully earns 1+ achievements
When a player fails to build upon his or her tower, the rest of the team still continues to build upon their towers until all towers collapse. The last remaining team with at least one active tower is the winner.
Tracking: Each team will be responsible for posting in the Skyline Build Schedule thread which member or members will be building. Posts can be made the day of. If desired, a team's schedule can be stated for multiple days, just make sure that you do not miss any red bricks you may receive. If there is no team member stated in the Skyline Build Schedule thread, then responsibility will default to the team member with the highest tower.
The numbers for the total achievements earned are available on your blog. Xbox.com can be used to settle disputes. Fafhrdd may also be providing a page for this tracking.
Prizes:
- Gold, Silver, and Bronze contest winner badges for the top three teams.
- Community Event badge for all participants
- 1600 MSP to each member of the winning team.
- 1600 MSP to the highest tower on a non-winning team.
- 1600 MSP to the gamer who earns the most achievements on their first day (provided by toddycst).
- 1600 MSP to the gamer with the best penthouse (most extra achievements from level 10 upwards) (provided by JB330)
Provided by zinki949: -One 2gb 4th generation iPod Shuffle to each member of the winning team (up to 4 max)
-One 2gb 4th generation iPod Shuffle to the gamer with the best penthouse (most extra achievements from level 10 upwards)
NOTES: *iPod shuffles will be laser engraved with the winner's gamertag followed by "SKYLINE 2012"
**iPod shuffles will be sent through offices here in Cupertino to domestic US addresses; On overseas addresses I will have to ship it out personally.
***You can choose from 5 color choices (blue, pink, orange, green, or silver), if you do not know what the 4th gen ipod shuffles look like, then follow this link http://www.apple.com/ipodshuffle/
FAQ: Q: Does the tower count only go up by 1 every day it is your turn? So if you score 10 on your first day, would you have to score 11 the next time it is your turn or just more than 2? A: It just goes up by 1.
Q: Do I need all achievements for a completion or just all the gamerscore? A: 360Voice counts a completion as all the gamerscore. You do not need a game's 0-point achievements.
Q: How does new DLC affect my completions/gold bricks? A: Completions/gold bricks will be calculated based on Fshguy's API data. If DLC is released and your completion number decreases, then you will lose the expected part of a gold brick. But your team will not drop below zero gold bricks. So in theory you could complete a game, use all of your gold bricks, have DLC release, and then complete the DLC to earn credit again for the completion.
Q: Can I earn gold bricks even if it is not my day to build? A: Yes. Only after your entire team is eliminated do you stop earning gold bricks. This means that even if an individual tower collapses, the individual can still add gold bricks for his team.
Q: Is there any advantage in splitting the red bricks among teammates? A: If you are at level 30, it is your day to build, and your team has received 8 bricks the previous day, you may be more comfortable simply raising your tower to 31, and letting a teammate take the day's bricks to raise his tower from say, 10 to 18.

lol@ dacoto. Count me in. Clearly I am a masochist.
Edit: For clarification, completions count for gold bricks even if it's not your day to build? Also, all players who take a red brick have to build the day they split the red bricks? If so, is there any actual advantage to doing so? |

As I was the first out last year, I must defend my reputation by aiming to be 2nd out this year. Sign me up.
Also, I will offer up the same prize as last year. 1600 MSP code to the person with the most achievements on their first day of building.
I believe JB won that last year by unlocking 30,000 achievements on his first day. |

Added to FAQ in first post. 1. Yes, completions count for everyone all the time (until team is eliminated). 2. Red bricks must be placed on towers the day after they are received. They can be placed on anyone's tower as long as they are all placed. If a team receives 4 bricks then the next day the team has to add five levels total. The main builder must add at least 1 and then the team can split the 4 bricks however they would like. |

Count me in too! No post-STEI gamerscore depression for me this year!
I have a question too. Does the tower count only go up by 1 every day it is your turn? So if you score 10 on your first day, would you have to score 11 the next time it is your turn or just more than 2? |

Think of each of your build days as building another floor. Yes you could earn 1 achievement when you need just 1, but how boring would that be - white walls, plastic chairs, no carpeting. But when you score 10 and only need 1, well that sounds like a much nicer place to live. So whichever day is yours for your second floor, yeah you could just score 2 achievements and leave the floor cold and uninviting, or you could spruce it up a bit, add a coffee table, big screen tv, etc. |

Question about the bonus. You can carry up to 10 gold bricks. If you continue to complete games when you're maxed out on bricks, can you go back and declare your completions later, when you're not maxed out on bricks or do the completions not count for bonuses at that point?
Also, can you pull an STEI and not tell anyone about your completions until 11:59 PST and drop your completions and bonuses all at once?

Completions will go to waste if you are maxed out. Furthermore, no one needs to declare completions as this will be automatically tracked. The site will pick up completions the day after (usually in the afternoon when badges run).

I am hoping Fafhrrd can put together a page that lists all available completions\gold bricks. At the least I can publish a spreadsheet with the data.
You can drop your bonuses at 11:59 PST but the team you dropped them against still has the next day to build through them.
What I am secretly hoping to see is a team drop a brick on itself at 12:00 AM. Because once a team has been targeted they are off-limits for the rest of the day. So if a team really fears getting a ton of bricks dropped on them by a rival, would they be willing to use their bonus against themselves in an effort to pre-empt a worse result? Probably not but we'll see. |
