I have thought about this for a few years now and finally wanted to start putting plans together to make this happen.
Concept: 360voice members will assemble at eBash here in Terre Haute, IN for a weekend of unlocking achievements. Our goal will be to set the Guinness World Record for most achievements (or Gamerscore) unlocked in a 24 hour period.
Background: A few years ago I hosted a team of 4 that were attempting to break the record for the longest FPS gaming session. The current record was 32 hours at the time. They totally jacked up the attempt, they drove through the night to get to our store and then 2 of them started the attempt after already being awake for 20 hours. They made it about 18 hours and then got in a big fight with each other and quit.
So the only good that came out of it is that I totally watched and made notes on what it took to set-up, register, record and submit an attempt. I would love to make an attempt at the FPS record sometime, but I thought with our group at 360voice we could not only create a few records but also put the bar out of reach for them all.
Timing/Days: My idea would be to have everyone travel on a Friday to our store. We can set-up shuttle service from the IND airport to Terre Haute (less than an hour drive) for anyone flying in for the weekend.
Friday night I will have a block of hotel rooms set-up. For those within a 4-5 hour drive, they could travel Saturday morning. The event would begin at noon, so everyone would need to arrive to begin setting up around 10 or 11 AM.
The event would run from noon on Saturday until noon on Sunday. That would give everyone time to travel home Sunday afternoon/evening.
Record Ideas/Attempts: Here is the fun part. In almost all of these cases we would be creating the records as we go.. so we can use the time we are all together to set multiple records. There are guidelines from the GWW folks on the details for making a record, here are some of my suggestions:
Individual - Most Achievements unlocked in 24 hours - Most Gamerscore gained in 24 hours - Longest consecutive gamerscore session
Group - Most achievements unlocked in 24 hours by a group - Most Gamerscore gained in 24 hours by a group - Most gamers in one gamerscore session - Longest consecutive gamerscore session for a group
Logistics: My goal would be to have 100 folks pull this off. My store has 50 seats for Xbox already set-up, but a total of 95 stations set-up counting PC, PS3 and Wii. We can add room for up to around 110 or 120 stations. My idea would be to have anyone flying in be able to use our existing stations so they don't have to bring any big equipment with them. While those traveling from the midwest by car could bring their set-ups and use the PC, PS3 and Wii stations.
I have cameras throughout the store which we can use for recording and submitting the attempt, this is a HUGE barrier for most folks attempting records. You have to submit video of the entire attempt and everyone participating.
We will also need to submit screen capture footage of a few of the contestants. The 4 guys that tried the FPS record just recorded one of their stations, but in our case with 100+ members I think we should attempt to record 5-10 depending on who has equipment to handle this. We can do a few stations at the store, but all of this will be a ton to manage.
I will take care of the witness requirements. I can get all of the local press to cover the story and submit their footage. Also I can have my local gaming community (we have around 15,000 users in our store DB) to stop by and sign witness reports.
Food: For those folks helping for the continuous gaming session records you are allowed to have a 5 min break every hour. You can store those up in 3 hour period for a 15 min break for example. This keeps it from being a medical problem with gaming and not eating or going to the bathroom.
With that many people in one spot I plan on getting us some local food sponsors who will benefit from the press coverage. I don't want to feed everyone pizza and soda for example, we need food that will keep everyone going. However I know through the night I can get Energy Drink folks to provide free product.
Cost: As much as I would love to say that I am a millionaire and will pay for the entire operation that just isn't the case. That being said I don't want to make anything on the project. I plan on participating in the attempt with everyone else, so I will have to staff up the store for the day and have them take care of all of the details.
Depending on how much of the food I can get donated I think I can make all of this happen for around $25/person. I don't want this to be a barrier for anyone to participate, but I know most of us 360voice folks are capable of helping cover the costs. This will allow me to coordinate the food, close the store to the public for the day and would include food/drinks.
Feedback/Volunteers/Date: I am looking for feedback from everyone here at 360voice for this project along with volunteers to help me coordinate everything and help with set-up.
I also want everyone to help me figure out a good weekend to make this happen. We need a few months for planning and for everyone to make travel plans, but I would like to make this happen before the summer if possible. I was thinking of a weekend in May. It just can't be a holiday weekend like Memorial Day because the store is packed during those weekends and I can't afford to close to the public during a busy weekend. :) |

I would be down, and living only a couple hours away it would be cool to meet people from this site in person.
Are you planning on having us start brand new tags for this? It would make it A LOT easier for most of us, lol.
Also, would there be a Japanese Xbox available? Would also make it easier.

| I could do a weekend trip at that time. Was thinking of taking time off in May already for an anime convention in Orlando, but haven't bought anything yet. If desired I can switch things around to Indiana. |

| Just thought I'd add that the current world record for the most GS in one day (by an individual) is 10,290. A write-up about it can be found at: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/overachiever-for-a-day |

| Might keep in mind that summer would be better to get more members from everywhere, travel is easier that time of year. |

I would suggest anytime after March 31st since people from the northeast can get jammed up with weather delays at the airports due to snow.
Most colleges finish classes in May so i think May is bad. Most high schools finish in June so I think June is bad too. IMO August would be best.
I would be into this even though I'm not within driving distance. I am curious tho if we need to start new gamertags? |

This sounds like cool idea, since I am about a 6 hour drive away I'd definitely be interested.
I actually kind of hope we can use our current tags since if I'm going to put up all those points, may as well have them count on my main tag.
I know for myself, I'd probably want to stay Sunday night too since I am not going to try to drive home after being awake for 24 hours...hopefully I can stay awake that long.
I can bring both of my consoles if needed.
What would you use to record a station? Just a camcorder? |

Here are some of my thoughts on the questions so far...
Brand new tags? - My gut feeling is most of us will use our existing. With that many gamerscore folks in one place and with eBash's collection there should be ample games to play for everyone. We can all trade around during the event also. However for the individuals going for the single player record they may want to use a new tag. I am not sure any of us can pull off over 10k in one day on our existing tags. BUT... a brand new tag with as many easy games that are out there now... I think someone could pull off 15k or maybe even 20k in 24 hours.
Japanese Xbox? - I have one that can be used. Instead of selling those games I will just loan them out until this goes down.
Date? - Yeah, thinking more about it May wouldn't work that well for everyone. Summer is busier for us during the week at the store, but weekends still are relatively tame. So we could take a weekend in middle to late June perhaps. Plus with stellar weather we will be able to hang outside more around the building.. I can set-up a big tent for outdoor eating and we could do a giant cookout for one of the meals.
Sunday night? - For sure, I can get the block of rooms set-up ahead of time for Friday and then Sunday. Hopefully none of us will wimp out and need one Saturday night. :)
Not mentioned, but one thing that I wanted to bring up:
I don't expect to have 100+ diehard gamers going for the full 24 hours. If we have 50 diehards that unlock 5k+ and 50 casuals that only unlock 2-3k we will still set the bar really high for the most gamerscore unlocked by a group at one event.

Interested. 7hr ride straight across 70.
The SG spring fling is scheduled for June in Chicago though, so I'll have to watch the date on this one. |

With a new tag 10,290 seems completely doable.
Now the 11hr drive from York, PA to Terre Haute is a different story. |

I made the hour and a half drive home after about 20 straight hours of Japanese games on 2 hours of sleep. The hallucinations were pretty fun but I wouldn't recommend it. |

What an awesome idea! I'd love to meet up with people from this site. I think June might be better than May for me. My brother's wedding is maybe like the 3rd weekend of May and the week before that I have friends that are graduating.
As for the records, I think that 10,290 would be easy to pass for an individual in a 24 hr period starting with a new tag. I'm pretty sure that some of us on this site probably already own some of these records unofficially. I've stayed up all night on a few occasions with people during the HERBIE and the STEI.
Like Tandar, I'm also curious about a Japanese xbox being available. That might be a way to boost my own gamerscore a bit, plus I think that I'd start a new tag just to see how much I could score. I'd probably bring my own xbox too so that I would have access to some of my easy arcade games.
I might ask Indigo Ferret if he could come up with a schedule to maximize scoring too. He's really good with spreadsheets and strategy. |

Interesting Bozack, let me know if there's anything I can do. I can open up a forum for this. Will be interesting if this coincides with my trip up North...
Side note, looks like I need to look into an Orlando event next month. |
