My brother-in-law sent me an OnLive Microconsole today.
Anyone have one?
What are your thoughts?
As always, I am futiles on it.
I will follow up with my thoughts later.
But, this now makes me owning all 4 US home consoles.

| It looks interesting. I may consider it if there was a wireless option for it. Site says wired only. Good selection of games too. One of the demo screens showed achievements. Hmmm, wonder where they got that from? lol |

Have you not done PC games in the past 4 years?
WoW has achievements.
Basically, Nintendo is about the only company without some form of achievement/trophy system.
Also, since there is no game storage on the device, it does not "support" wireless, as the quality cannot be guaranteed.
You could always go with a wireless-to-ethernet bridge, but for 50"+ screens, the system requires 12Mbps minimum, to maintain the proper latency and quality standards.
Wireless adds a lot of latency into that... |

About the only pc gaming I do now is GFWL. I did pick up Starcraft 2 & C&C 4 (love RTS games) but the other 1 or 2 games had nothing and I do not play WoW. I may get the new Star Wars game though.I parted with most of my pc games and my collection of consoles that could have rivaled Mango a while back so I'm pretty much exclusive to the 360/GFWL/WP7 world.
Still, this new system may gain some ground in the market. |

| Being that I have a gaming PC, onlive doesn't really have a place for me. I've heard mixed reviews on it. |

I don't see how a gaming PC would have any affect here.
I think, honestly, OnLive will be purchased and incorporated into the next console by either Microsoft or Sony.
However, it has been great for trying out stuff. And since it has a PC app (where you don't even need the micro console), I think that argument is backwards. because you have a gaming PC, OnLive makes more sense as a free app for being able to try, rent and view games on your PC. |

Ah, see the way I have always view it the system was a way to make it so you could play all the games with out needing expensive/custom/whatever equipment to have access to them.

You are right, you don't need the equipment, but if you are PC gaming anyway, why not use it as a trial service?
But, like I said, I have no doubt that we will see a major company purchasing and incorporating it before the next gen. It already accomplishes what Microsoft and Sony have expressed an interest in what they eventually want to see their consoles as... |

| I have been using the OnLive service off and on since beta, and it is great if you have a low end pc because it is cloud gaming and requires pretty much no hardware, however you have to have a good steady internet connection or the quality stays kinda low. Other than that I like it. I have been interested in the console, keep us posted. |

I will same that overall, the microconsole is slick.
It accomplishes exactly what it sets out to accomplish.
The bandwidth requirements are the same, possibly even greater, as many (if not most) PC gamers are on smaller monitors than console gamers are. (And if you really want that 60" 1080p to look good, you better have some pipe)
I like the ability for the server side improvements to push through to the microconsole. I know in early stages it was only 720p, but improvements in video compression and streaming allowed them to step up to 1080p.
I just don't expect OnLive to be a product for my than another 18-24 months. I see Microsoft being able to easily incorporate it into the dashboard easily. |

Which given the business history of the guys that created Onlive I could totally see that happening.
Maybe I will try out the trial service and see what I think. |

Just looked him up. I had no idea that OnLive was driven by that guy.
Yes, I very much believe 100% that OnLive was developed as a company for the sole reason to sell off the technology. |
