Facial La Fleur vs Tandar1
Facial La Fleur - Though I'm sure nearly everyone who is anyone in the 360v community already knows of you, why don't you introduce yourself in a few short sentences.
Tandar1 - I'm a 25 year old gamer currently attending the University of Southern Indiana for a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems (whew, say that 5 times fast!). Been on the site for almost 4 years now, and I can't remember how I ended up here... must of had something to do with gaming podcasts because I listen to those on my commute to/from school each day.
Facial La Fleur - How long have you been responsible for the Member of the Moment feature and how did you inherit that responsibility?
Tandar1 - A few years ago, before ChangeAgent and Squidpunch stepped down, I was looking into the MotM articles. I really liked these and noticed that one had not been created for some time. I sent an e-mail to ChangeAgent asking who did them and seeing if maybe I could give one a shot if they were too busy with other things. He said that sounded great and I could send one to him once it was finished. The first person I picked was MLC2074 and ever since then I have been doing them as much as I can and getting better at them (or so I like to think).
Facial La Fleur - Nearing 175,000 gamerscore across 260 titles, you're obviously a fairly serious gamer. Where do your gaming roots begin? What are some of your fondest memories from those earlier days until present time?
Tandar1 - I can remember it well. I had begged and begged my parents to get me the new Super Nintendo gaming console! That was my earliest introduction to having a console at home (my friend had a Sega Genesis, and I had been to the arcade every now and then). One of my fondest memories, was when Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars was released. Back then I didn't have a part-time job and was doing chores for money. I did this door-to-door selling thing that you were able to keep $2 for every order you made. I went out all week around the neighborhood trying to make enough for the game. Sure enough after counting all my dollar bills, I was able to afford the game! That was one of my favorite games on the SNES, and a great memory.
Facial La Fleur - Do you play any other the other current gen consoles other than the 360? If so, what are some of your favorite exclusives on those?
Tandar1 - Our family got a PS3 the Christmas it came out, still backwards compatible :P. I really don't play it ever, usually just blu-ray movies. I do have a pretty sweet PC that I built. Intel i5, Geforce GTX 560 Ti, 120GB SSD, and the other usual stuff. I was a pretty serious Counter-Strike Source player back in the day, and was in a clan called [Iue5], so I usually play PC games with them when the big ones hit (Battlefield Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, and Diablo 3 are some examples).
Facial La Fleur - Other than the 360, what is your favorite console of all time?
Tandar1 - Oh wow, I would have to say the Playstation/Playstation 2. I was hardcore into RPGs growing up. Would save up my money (which took awhile) and be able to buy one game that would last what seemed like forever and have such an engaging story. Final Fantasies were always awesome. Playstation was just were it was at back when I was in my teen years, my how times have changed.....
Facial La Fleur - And while we're on the topic of best things ever, is there one game in particular you'd say stands above the rest?
Tandar1 - A single game? Well that's no easy task. If I had to pick one game, in which I was only allowed to play until the end of time, it would have to be..... Chrono Trigger for SNES. 13-15 different endings, New Game +, and a frog as a teammate. How can you beat that?!?!.
Facial La Fleur - Of your 7,000 plus achievements, which would you say is your proudest? Which do you estimate as the most time consuming or most difficult? Lastly, which are you most ashamed to have on your card?
Tandar1 - Hmmm, it's hard to keep track of everything with so many unlocked! I would have to say my proudest would have to be the one from Limbo called "No Point In Dying". Beat the entire game in one sitting with 5 or less deaths. Having to memorize the entire game and be able to redo each puzzle a specific way was pretty challenging, and I did it all myself without the use of any tricks/videos! The most time consuming/difficult would have to be Halo 3 ODST "Endure" achievement. Wow, I was actually playing with MyFryHole and it was at my girlfriend's house (who has DSL interenet) during a huge storm! I kept thinking the power was going to go out each round we completed... and got closer to the end. We were able to do it though, wave after wave, round after round, and that is something I will never forget. Most ashamed would be between Hannah Montana, Avatar, and My Horse And Me 2.
Facial La Fleur - Everyone loves lists, so tell us what are your 5 favorite 360 retail games?
Tandar1 - Batman Arkham Asylum and City, Bulletstorm, Split/Second and Blur, Any LEGO Game, Borderlands, with Darksiders as a backup.
Facial La Fleur - And how about XBLA titles?
Tandar1 - Shadow Complex, Limbo, Peggle, Any Magic the Gathering game, Toy Soldiers, Raskulls.... oops that's 6, sue me! (Please don't, I have college loans to pay)
Facial La Fleur - Which 360 game do your feel is the most underrated and should be given a chance by more players?
Tandar1 - Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, had a really good story and I personally thought the ending was an excellent twist. The combat was decent, and the graphics were gorgeous! It became really cheap quickly because it came out during a bad time next to big releases. You can probably find it around $10 now and everyone should give it a shot!
Facial La Fleur - Do you have any pet peeves or general annoyances that you sometimes come across that can often ruin a potentially good game?
Tandar1 - Collectible achievements. I hate it when there are missable collectibles so in order to actually complete the game you have to sit there and use a guide for a step-by-step walkthrough. I know this isn't a requirement, but in order to finish the game I usually like to do it all in one go. However, if you are easily able to load up the chapter/mission in the game to go back and get something you missed, that is awesome and I'll play it through the first time for fun.
Facial La Fleur - Obviously we'd prefer them all, but what is most important to you in games... Strong story? Amazing graphics? Solid gameplay? Easy achievements?
Tandar1 - The only thing that I make sure before I start a game is if it has any completely crazy, time-consuming, soul-crushing acheivements. I avoid these games because I know my OCD with completing everything will totally eat at me until I have them done. The most important thing about a game for me would be the gameplay/story. If it plays really solid and I can get into the story and feel like I'm participating in that story it will be the only thing I'm thinking about during the day.
Facial La Fleur - Did you see The Avengers? If that isn't the best movie ever of this year, then what is?
Tandar1 - Yes, I saw it twice, in IMAX 3D, and it was the greatest thing I've ever seen. Know anyone else who has yet to see it? I will go with them!
Facial La Fleur - What hobbies do you have outside of gaming? What do you do when you're not hunting achievements or interviewing the Member of the Moment?
Tandar1 - Well being a student about to graduate, I have been spending a lot of time studying and making sure I pass all my classes. Outside of that I like to play golf and softball. I have a girlfriend that I spend time with when we are both available. I will read before I go to sleep each night, which consists of a magazine or book. I like to go see movies in theaters if it's something I want to see and looks good (AVENGERS WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!).
Facial La Fleur - Lastly, if you could only pick one, what is your most anticipated game of 2012?
Tandar1 - Definitely Borderlands 2. It's been pre-ordered ever since Amazon gave me the option. Oh man it's going to be good and I can see myself playing that straight through to completion!

Tandar1 vs Facial La Fleur
Tandar1 - How did you come about getting your name? Has something to do with French I imagine?
Facial La Fleur - This is the number one annoying question I get over XBOX Live multiplayer just ahead of being asked if my mother is into specific sexual acts. About 99% of people think I'm French (do I sound French?) but then there's the elite 1% that get it. It's actually a quote from the movie Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, where Vince Vaughn plays a character named Peter La Fleur and Ben Stiller is the douchebag White Goodman. While playing competitive dodgeball, Peter is eliminated by Goodman, who then celebrates by saying "Facial, La Fleur. Total facial."
Tandar1 - What are your top 5 proudest achievements?
Facial La Fleur - Not necessarily my proudest but a few that required a significant amount of time are Transcend History and the World (Acquire all weapons and equipment) in SoulCalibur IV, EZI Worshipper (All the items related to EZI have been collected) in Eternal Sonata, and Treasure Hunter (Held every weapon and accessory) in Final Fantasy XIII. For skill related achievements I was recently proud of Electoon Legend (Completed ALL Medallions) in Rayman Origins and Stellar Stamina (200,000 points in back-to-back Classic and Twist games) in Bejeweled Blitz LIVE. Lastly, I'd like to recognize Capn Doug x360a and pTartTX for assisting me with Platinum Rockstars (100% a song as a band, hard or expert only) in Guitar Hero: World Tour.
Tandar1 - What are your top 3 embarassing achievements?
Facial La Fleur - Conversely to my proudest that required some degree of grinding to complete, my most embarrassing would be achievements that I continued grinding even though I hated the game. Yaris, Big Bumpin, and You're in the Movies come to mind.
Tandar1 - What are some other hobbies you like to do other than gaming?
Facial La Fleur - Anything music related is my first choice. I was in various bands for over 15 years but I haven't been active for the last two or so years due to the usual rockstar drama you hear about. If I'm not playing music I love listening to it in all it's many forms. I also enjoy trying out new beers and restaurants, preferably with friends.
Tandar1 - If you could only eat one slice, what kind of pizza would it be?
Facial La Fleur - Believe it or not, my favorite pizza is usually from Costco. I don't know what it is about how it's prepared but it just seems perfect to me... and I never eat just one slice!!
Tandar1 - Have any goals for 2012? How are they coming along?
Facial La Fleur - My number one priority for the last two years has been going back to school but I've had setback after setback and it just isn't happening as quickly as I'd like. I'm still working on it though and hopefully before the end of the year I'll be enrolled. In regards to gaming, my one and only goal is for Skyline to be over!!
Tandar1 - 181,858GS is well above the average, do you focus on Gamerscore increase or play for fun?
Facial La Fleur - I generally play for fun and occasionally competitively. The only time I am focused on points is during major challenges such as Mega or Skyline.
Tandar1 - Completion is at 86%, do you try to complete all your games?
Facial La Fleur - Yes, completion is very important to me and far more impressive than points. Anyone can get all the quick points out of a game and then move on but it's us hardcore masochists that will suffer hellish atrocities for that completion. Before February I was over 90%. Thanks, Skyline.
Tandar1 - Do you have any other consoles that you play on?
Facial La Fleur - I don't have enough time to even play every 360 game I'm interested in let alone the ones I'd like on other consoles. I play some PC games from time to time but only if they are LIVE enabled. I want everyone to know what I'm up to at all times. I'm also working on getting a Windows phone.
Tandar1 - What are your thoughts on the new consoles for $99 with a contract?
Facial La Fleur - It's not something that interests me but I'm not against it. Life is too unpredictable (or maybe too predictable in my case?) for me to commit to paying for something for two years. In the past I've learned the hard lesson that if you can't afford it now then you don't need it now. With a contract you always pay more than it's worth in the long run and if you lose your job and can't find another in this economy, then your credit is screwed.
Tandar1 - If you could have gone to E3 this year, what would you have wanted to see?
Facial La Fleur - I'd like to see a prequel to Viking: Battle For Asgard that is about Skarin's father. The NPCs in the game all speak highly of him so he must be a total badass that deserves his own story. I've thought about trying to get a Kickstarter going for it but I don't think I legally could. I'd also like to see a new Viva Pinata game.
Tandar1 - Do you expect there to be a new console announcement before the end of the year? What do you think it will be?
Facial La Fleur - Other than the new Nintendo machine I don't think we'll see anything else this year. Sony and Microsoft are sticking with this generation's hardware a bit longer and I'm glad. New games manage to come out each year that look even better than the year before but gaming isn't about graphics. Look at n+, that is one of the funnest games I've ever played and it's stick figures. Plus, there are over a thousand games on the 360 and I've only played 300 of them. Need. More. Time.
Tandar1 - What are your thoughts on 3D gaming?
Facial La Fleur - It's one of those things that they'll really need to perfect before it will peak my interest. As it is, I don't want to have to wear bulky glasses on top of my own glasses or have to contort my neck a certain way to make sure the images don't blur. I've played the 3DS for like five minutes and wasn't impressed with what I saw or the headache it gave me. The idea is neat but it's a ways off before it will be worth participating in. |

Think the interview should've made it to the front page like the old MotM interviews did, since with no new posts to bump it, I didn't see it (spent a month or so of only checking every few weeks and the good ol' active topic thing got hosed a few times while catching up on threads). Awesome interviews!
BTW Tandar, I'm surprised you're still alive after mentioning Super Mario RPG... since y'know on the Nintendo E3 conference they said Paper Mario introduced RPG elements to Mario... doesn't seem like they want to acknowledge that game exists :p (even though it was awesome!) |

I don't follow Nintendo anymore, it's not good. I had no idea they said that, what a bunch of morons. |

I give them the benefit of the doubt that it was because SMRPG was actually a Square game they don't mention it... even though I did want to slap the speaker when he said that lol |

| Wonder how hard it will be to get this moved to the front? Can tandar do it since he used to run the MotM? Good stuff though. I have been really busy of late and was wondering what happened with this as well. |

That's because tandar should only be concerned with apples and robots. |

lol.
@Ichya I could post it to the front if it was ok with the people in charge of the site. Also, I need to get another MotM up... I'm way behind on that (thanks for the reminder :P) |

| I guess you could always just post these as the member of the moment for now? That way you got a stash for the next couple months? |
