Let me define an 'OH ****' moment.

For an 'OH ****' moment to happen, something has to happen in the game for you to literally say to yourself...'oh ****'. In the least pleasant way possible.

Let's take a classic example:

Game: Resident Evil
The Set-Up: This mansion is spooky as ALL goddamn. Still, Barry wants me to investigate, that's what I'll do. I'm the master of unlocking. ****'s gonna get PICKED. What a strangely long corridor.
OH ****: There are now dogs in the corridor, who entered suddenly through the windows. I would attempt to fight them but I am ten years old and catatonic with fear.

Of course, it doesn't HAVE to be a scary moment per se. Anything goes. Insane clusters of notes on Guitar Hero, cheating bastard AI on racing games, it's not for me to say what makes YOU guys say 'OH ****'.

Here's an atypical example and remember...you get extra points if you can link a valid OH **** multiplier to your chosen moment. Observe!

Game: Mortal Kombat: Deception
The Set-Up: You choose Scorpion, hit arcade mode and battle your way past the irritating Noob/Smoke to the final boss, Onaga. He flies into the arena, easily twice your size, and roars in your face. You make a lot of noise son but you won't be singing when I put my rope spear through your ugly neck.
OH ****: THE SPEAR DOES NOTHING. Not only does it do nothing, it just hangs limply from his chest while he stampedes towards you like a winged truck. Okay...okay. Breathe. Let's just throw hands. I just kicked the asses of a robot and a ninja. Together. This'll be a cakewalk.
OH **** x2: JESUS CHRIST, is there even a fraction in existence SMALL enough to describe the amount of health that dropkick took from him? Oh, wonderful, now I'm dead. Dead on spikes. **** you, game.

Let's hear 'em.

Your first example is not an oh **** moment... it was an "I just **** myself moment" yeah, I lived out in the woods, was like 3am, had surround sound, all of a sudden the window next to the couch shattered.... yeah, maybe I did scream like a little girl... what of it?!

Game: Battlefield Bad Company 2
Oh SH%T! moment: Trying to defuse the bomb and hearing a teammate's AI character screaming "Get out now! The building's collapsing!" My heart started racing, but I defused the bomb, got some XP, and ran out the door as it fell behind me. It was intense!

MAG

With only 90 seconds left in the battle, I was planting explosives at my team's final attacking objective. All that was left to do was defend it for about 30 seconds. As soon as the charges are set I turn around to find an enemy rushing at me. "Oh ****" I exclaim and fumble with my controller, inadvertently clicking on the "r3" button which is the melee/knife function. The inadvertent click kills the opponent with the knife attack, to which I react with joy, until I turn a bit again and see another 5 enemies rushing me with guns blazing. Again, "Oh ****". It did not end well.

a tribute to my 77 kill streak on MW2

Across 3 games

Camping with the Barret, HQ at 175 to 0.

K/D sitting at 16/0, Chopper Gunner called into play, we cap the HQ for the first time and suddenly, it becomes a shooting gallery for me as the red squares constantly flock towards it, completely oblivious that death is being rained down with no remorse. The gunner flies off, 33/0 and I come back into my camping spot, and low and behold, nuke is available. Ending the game at 37/0

Game Two, getting the ass handed to us again, this time Scavenger Pro and the term "n00b t00b" is redefined as I rampage through the team popping off triple kills, another chopper gunner, this time only about 3 kills and its shot down, a few more tubes and whats this? 25/0 again?! Nuke, game over.

Game Three was a bit closer and I was sitting at 20/0. (I was in the zone granted and standing up in full battle stance headset long since thrown aside) sitting at 10/0 and I run out of ammo.....Well, I was running with my favorite build of lightweight and marathon and the knifing spree began, then the shield guy laid down the law. A lunge from out of this world put me in desperation mode, hitting every button possible I climbed to the top of a barrier and jumped over him avoiding his second lunge. I went for the knife and got him, a cold sweat came over as it happened, the enemy team saw I was close to another Chopper and panic mode began, I snagged the shield, and backed into a corner as 2 ran into the room and as they reloaded a sticky grenade sent me on my way to another gunner. Hell rained down and the nuke popped again, I was a bit hesitant to call it as I wanted to milk the kill streak until 100, but pffft ass 1887 me from ridiculous land.

In my anger, nuke called games over, I went off and pouted about not making it to 100.

And the true Oh **** moment.

BFBC, crate is almost gone, I see the sqaud of about 7 support guys run into the barn to gang rape the crate with their guns instead of planting the bomb, so I call down the thunder with my air strike.

7 for 7 kills, hell yea, I just saved the day, Oh ****, I blew up the crate...

We lost :(

In "We don't go to Ravenholm" in Half-Life 2, the time you have to fight the horde of screaming headcrab zombies. It's the first time you're up against the scariest enemy in the game, you're stuck on a tiny rooftop, and you don't even have the shotgun yet. Oh... ****.

Killjoy was here.

Resident Evil 4 in the lab. I collected my key card, and hear a weird metal clang behind me. Open the door and "oh ****" there is a narly looking thing called a regenerator and it is coming at me. I keep shooting at it but it won't die. Run away and down the hallway and "oh ****" moment number 2 another one is coming at me down the hallway. I shoot out its legs and it keeps coming at me. I ran away again. I was so happy when I got the thermal scope haha. Even now when I fight them I still get that feeling in my gut when I hear the rattling breath getting closer.

The first three levels of Fallout 3… seriously, the first few hours of the game is the hardest, especially when wandering the wastes… I remember one time in particular where I spotted a mister handy in the distance… I tried to sneak around him, but was greeted with the plasma fire (hence the “OH S****” moment). Took quite a few reloads before I took that thing down.

Game- Left 4 Dead 2 DEMO

So I'm playing Left 4 dead 2 online when go figure, nobody has a mic- they leave me behind fighting a horde of zombies...I happen to survive this horde only to find that somebody shoots the car setting off the alarm, I'm now greeted by 10,000 zombies, 1 Tank, and 1 boomer. The boomer vomits on me, I go down..."oh SH!T!" So I begin to be surrounded. Slowly killing off zombies one at a time, then FINALLY there's my team!! they kill the rest of the zombies and revive me. I follow by beating every single one of my teammates with a frying pan. thus getting voted out of the game....good times..lol

My most recent “Oh shoot!” moment has been on the Halo: Reach Beta.
I just started playing the Beta and I’m feeling pretty good about the job I am doing. Then I walk around a corner and guess what I see someone holding the sword. I’m thinking to myself, “Oh this is going to suck.” Well I start opening fire on the Sword Guy seeing my life pass though my eyes. The moment I bought ODST, The moment I placed it into my 360, The moment I hit the A button to start the beta. The I punched and blocked the sword swipe. With another quick push on the punch button I laid the Sword Guy out cold. All I could think was “Oh Shoot that was close.”
