Hi, I just signed up for GameFly and thought I would spread the word about it. Here is a link where you can get a referral for GameFly which gives you a free month when you sign up.

| I've been a member for over a year now and have loved it. It really came in handy during some challenges too and it allows me to play games I am curious about but don't wanna invest in. On the other hand, people renting games is a major part of why companies are charging so much for DLC other than their usual greed but now they have justification for when people accuse them of milking us for every penny we have. |

| I've been a gf member twice now and while they are better about getting you games in your top 5, they are still sooooooo slow. There is usually an 8-10 day turnaround from a time I put a game in the mail until I get another one. Nothing annoys me more than when I see they have a game back and they take 2 or 3 days to send another one. |

| Wow that sucks, toddycst. I usually get one within a day or two from the time they get the one I sent in. I guess it helps that I live in California and there are a few different shipping centers here. Where do you live? They have distributors in Texas and Florida I know for sure but not 100% sure where else. |

| There is a GF distributor in Long Beach. Even though it's really only a 2-3 day mail zone at most, it would take upwards of a week to get games back when I had them. they almost always came from there. |

| I hated gamefly. I cancelled my service after 3 months of use. I had the same slow problem as everyone else. And I live in Michigan, so I had 9-11 day turnaround for a game. Plus, I game way too slowly to justify the expense. |

The trick to combating the waiting period is to have a two game plan and play one then sent it in and then during the wait play the other one and by the time you finish that one you have another one at your door.
During the 30 day anniversary challenge I actually bumped my plan to 4 games and earned nearly 18k points in that month. Working 4 days a week I couldn't keep up with all the games and dropped it back down to 2 games. |

I keep my list full at 50 games on a 4 game plan. I've had several times where it takes a week for them to mail out a game. At those times they have credited me for a week however there are also times where it takes 5 days for a game to be back in their hands then 2 days for them to send a new one and 2 days to arrive. It's odd that they get to me in 2 days but at these times it takes 5-7 to get to them. With Redbox now renting games there is an alternative. Also in Dalllas there is Play and Trade which rent games for $1 a day so gamefly my not be for me in the near future if this continues.

For those in Canada, just putting word out that I've had some good success with gameaccess.ca. And please stay away from canflix.ca, they went out of business and never took their site down. (Even though their site is still accepting new members and credit cards)
EDIT: Sorry canflix.com I meant |

| I can't say I'm happy with GF's turn around time either out of Pittsburg to Ohio... I can't use Netflix as a comparison since they have a DC here in Grove City, but it's not a mail issue at all with them, the last game I got, they received, and it took 4 weekdays to ship out another title, and I keep my queue loaded to the max, so there was no excuse, after MLC and I are done with L.A. Noire (or we end up buying it) I plan on dropping them. |

| Wow you people have terrible luck with your turnarounds. I too keep my queue maxed out with a mix of upcoming, new, and old games. At any given time there are several "available now" titles so are you people loading up on "low availability" titles or what? |

| Just checked my list out of 43 games 27 are available now or high availability. They often quote a double standard when I contact them about the delay. If my list is low they say add more games if it's full or near full they say they try to send games at the top of the list. In the top 10, 6 are available now or high. |

Here's a tip. There are some post offices that have scanners that let Gamefly know you're returning the game. If you've never seen something like "rapid Return" in your info, you might try a different post office. This might cut out a couple days in your turnaround.
Also, I think the post office themselves has been getting worse. Have Netflix and Gamefly in Tampa, and both don't get to me the next day most of the time anymore. |

Yeah, the rapid return feature is great too. I've sent a game back and have gotten a text the next day letting me know they've sent out the next game.
I had to cancel my Blu-Ray plan with Netflix cuz literally we had 30 cracked discs in a row come. I think our mail man is lazy and just doesn't want to come to the door to give us the items that won't fit through the slot on the mailbox so he breaks them. Fortunately GameFly has the cardboard sleeves. |

| That's the odd thing I will get fast return about 1 out of 5 times so the post office I used does have it. It's the others that take 4 days or longer to arrive or more than 48hours to ship out a new game. Dont mistunderstand, it's not always this bad but it happens more often than it should. My rental history is over 200 and I've never had a disc that was unplayable or lost in either direction during shipment. |

I used to see a lot of lost games, but it's been years since that happened so I assume that issue has been fixed and/or better security measures placed. I seem to rarely get any games from my top 5 or top 10 unless I fill them full of junk that I don't really care about. I'd say that I've gotten a game two months or less old maybe one time out of ten. The shipping speed is very slow even though I'm about an hour away from a facility: it's usually a turnaround of 4-7 days although I have (rarely) received a game in as little as two when they actually bother doing the fast-return scan thing.
Despite all of this, they are/were the best for a long time due to their wide selection and relatively low price. The competition usually only had big and old titles, for example, and charged about half of GF's monthly fee for a single rental. Blockbuster started to catch up before they died, but now there just isn't much competition.
Anyway, despite their many faults, I still think that it's a pretty worthwhile service so long as you go in with moderate expectations. |

nope... here's the email
quote:
Good Morning, I'm emailing currently with a question. I have the max amount of titles in my Q, my account seems to be in good standing, I've had my account for years (though disabled once), why exactly are games trickling out for my account? I have a 3 game out account, I sent back all 3 games I had on the 9th, they were listed as received on the 13th. It took 3 days to send out the next game on my GameQ, which... it's was the weekend, understandable, now two (2) days later and there's still nothing else shipping? Out of the 49 in my GameQ, 2 games are listed as "Available now", 17 are listed as HIGH, so what's the deal?
Regards, ~Jason
and their reply
quote:
Hello,
We shipped you the game, LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars and L.A. Noire, on 05/16/11 and 05/18/11. We hope you enjoy it! Our apologies. We had been unable to ship a game to you immediately since they had been temporarily unavailable. Please note the availability statuses on the Web site reflect inventory across all of our shipping centers. While the game may reflect "Available Now” or “High" in your Q, it may only be available in the shipping center that is more distant from your residence. We try to ship games from your primary shipping center to allow you to receive your games faster.
To ensure we ship games in the fairest possible manner, we factor in the length of time that you have been waiting for a game (once a return is received in our facility) and the time the desired available game was placed in your GameQ. We do pay close attention to our inventory levels and the titles that are most popular to our members. We will continue to work to minimize the number and duration of unavailable games so we can send you your highest ranked item. We also recommend you add more released titles to your GameQ so you do not miss out on receiving games.
We understand that our members want both their first choice and rapid shipping. While we try to meet these expectations every time, exceptions occur where the top ranked item is not available and we realize that it can be frustrating.
We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any inconvenience. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.
Sincerely,
Basically ignoring points on the original email and feeding a partial canned response.
Almost dropped them right then.. but I took to L.A. Noire =P |

I've had, and canceled, Gamefly twice. I live in Michigan, and was being served by the Pittsburgh distribution center. The turnaround times were terrible, just like several other people stated. In reality, to get a package in the mail from Detroit to Pittsburgh ought to take 1, maybe 2 days. But Gamefly consistently wouldn't check in games until 3-5 days after I mailed them, then would wait another 2-4 days before sending me a replacement title. I'd often be without a game for at least 5 or 6 days, and often longer. Netflix can turn around discs in 2 days. Shouldn't take Gamefly a full week or more. When I complained, I got a canned response very similar to the one Cormyre quoted above. I decided it was unacceptable and quit.
I'm currently subscribed to the Blockbuster by mail cheapest plan, for $5/month, that includes 1 disc at a time, max 2 titles per month. Obviously they don't stock new release games, only titles that are at least 3 months old, so that's the big drawback. But if you keep a game for an average of 2 weeks or more anyway, it's not a problem having the 2 per month cap on the account. It's never been a problem for me. Even if I only get thru one game in the month, for 5 bucks, I've kept that game for 3 or 4 or 5 weeks and taken my time with it. Can't argue with the value for that price. |
