Hello and welcome! I am the Director for the Guinness World Record attempts for this event. This thread will keep you informed on what is going on with the status of our Guinness attempts. Please take your time and read all the information below. You can always contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

We will have several different attempts going on during this event, if you are interested in participating in a record attempt please inform me and I will walk you through the process. I will also direct any and all questions you have to Guinness for an official answer, please don’t assume anything! Ask and I will get clarification. Remember there are no stupid questions, only stupid people asking questions (joking).

You can contact me at my e-mail using the forum or you can post a message here. Easy as that! Now on to some real information you can use.

OFFICIAL GUINNESS RECORD TIMES ARE FROM noon on Saturday July 14th 2012 until noon on Sunday July 15th 2012 (24 hours).

General Guinness Rules
  • No person under the age of 16 may attempt this record. Persons aged between 16 and 18 must be in possession of a document signed by their parent or legal guardian, giving them permission to compete. This must be added to the log book and witnessed before the attempt has started.

  • The event is continuous. The clock does not stop. 24 hours means a complete 24-hour cycle including rest breaks. For example, if the event starts at 12 noon on Monday, it must finish at 12 noon on Tuesday.

  • The participant may take as many breaks as he/she wishes, but the clock must not stop at any time for any reason.

  • This record may only be attempted on a PC, an unmodified version of a commercially available video games console. Alterations to hardware and/or software outside of those released or endorsed by the manufacturer will result in disqualification.

  • Video games records may only be attempted on platforms or systems for which the game in question has been commercially released with the support of the platform manufacturer.

  • Software or hardware emulators are not permissible except where these are endorsed by both the game’s developers and the platform holders where applicable.

  • No cheat codes or devices may be used at any point during this attempt except where permitted in the specific guidelines above. This includes but is not limited to hexadecimal memory editors (e.g. action replay), save-game editors and internal cheat codes included by the developers. Guinness World Records reserves the right to disqualify any attempt where there is suspicion of cheating by any method.

  • Where the game used for the attempt carries an age rating in Europe or the United States, all participants must be of the minimum age required to buy that game according to its PEGI or ESRB rating, whichever is higher.

  • Evidence must be submitted as follows (not much for you to worry about, this is stuff we will worry about):

  • Video evidence of the entire attempt as one continuous shot, encompassing the venue and the attempt from power-on to final result.

  • Signed statements from two witnesses, one of whom must be professionally associated with video games. For example, video games retailers, journalists, developers, programmers and publishers are all acceptable.

  • Digital photographs of the venue and the attempt in progress.

  • Evidence that an audience of at least five individuals was present at the attempt, or that it took place in a location that is open to and frequented by the general public.

    UPDATES

    Latest Update
    5/15/2012 @ 5PM

I recieved the e-mail back from Guinness and I got some good information. The largest impact to those of you going for the individual record, we should only need one application, so I can do that and I am already getting more information on that.

I have updated the rules and discussion (below) with the updated items in blue.

I have already fired back the follow-up questions and have even more follow-up questions when he sends me back the answers again. Please let me know if there are any questions you all have.

    History
    7/07/2012 @ 7PM -

    ADDED the Group Record spreadsheet.

    7/06/2012 @ 11PM - Updated Individual Record spreadsheet.

5/14/2012 @ 10AM - E-Mailed Guinness 9 questions. We are going to try to get the group record approved again. I think our original attempt was too complex and hence why it was dropped. We had it down for most gamers to score the most points in 24 hours. So I think we should try something like this, most Xbox 360 gamers to play in one location at the same time.

I will update you all when I hear back from him on all 9 of my questions.

5/5/2012 @ Noon - My Guinness POC is out of town on vacation until Tuesday the 8th of May. In the mean time I will be typing up an e-mail to him with questions. If anyone has any questions about the process, what can and can't be done, or any other in-the-weeds-details let me know and I will add it to the list of questions I already have.

I have also did some initial contact with the adjudication area at Guinness. If we can work it out, this will provide us with an official to be at the event, make it more professional, provide some press, and eliminate a ton of paper work.

5/3/2012 @ 8PM - I am the brand new director for the Guinness records. I am John (Fafhrdd) and first off I want to say thanks to Patrick (Indigo Ferret) as he already has done a lot of leg work in getting the initial questions answered and forms filled out from Guinness. He needed to step down out of the director role for personal reasons. I pray the very best for him!

While I play a lot of catch up on reading e-mails, getting to know Guinness rules, ect please be patient. My three largest areas I will focus my attention on is: 1) Setting up the details and getting approval from Guinness on the two person Kinect teams. 2) Larger group Gamerscore teams (25 people). 3) Working on getting an official adjudicator at the event.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

    RULE EXPLANATION/DISCUSSION

--Latest Updates are in BLUE--LAST UPDATED ON 5/15/2012 @ 5PM--

    quote:

The record is for the most Xbox 360 gamerpoints achieved in 24 hours

Any Xbox 360 game may be used for this attempt, however each achievement may only be counted once.

Guinness will not allow PC games and WP7 games for this record. Currently this attempt is only on the xbox 360 Console.

    quote:

A new gamertag must be creating for the purposes of attempting this record – existing save games may not be used.

So, yes, everyone needs a new tag and more importantly you can't use a saved game, therefore no queued achievements.

Guinness will allow us to change any settings as long as they are not marked as a cheat.

Guinness also stated that the account needs to be at 0 gamerscore before the start however the creation of the account does not have to be on the video nor does it have to be part of the 24 hour period.

Guinness also stated that there is no need for it to be a gold account.

I will check with Guinness if this means you can't prep a game by modifying the settings before hand. For example you could save a TON of time if you started all the sports games, went into the settings, and modifiyed all 82 sliders, saved the settings and exited without playing.

    quote:

Multiplayer achievements are permitted, however these must not rely on any of the other players’ existing savegames.

So you can earn multiplayer achievements, but they have to be based upon your advancement in the game and not someone joining another player's session.

    quote:

This record may only be attempted on a PC, an unmodified version of a commercially available video games console or an unmodified arcade cabinet / board. Alterations to hardware and/or software outside of those released or endorsed by the manufacturer will result in disqualification.

If anyone is bringing their Xbox, make sure it is not modded. :) Also, if you plan on using another player's Xbox for arcade games or some other reason, make sure those aren't modded either.

    quote:

No cheat codes or devices may be used at any point during this attempt except where permitted in the specific guidelines above.

This includes but is not limited to hexadecimal memory editors (e.g. action replay), save-game editors and internal cheat codes included by the developers. Guinness World Records reserves the right to disqualify any attempt where there is suspicion of cheating by any method.

This seems pretty straight forward. Games like Velvet Assassin with force-ending chapters would be excluded.

Awesomeness. One suggestion, can you also put real names on the individual list in addition to their current gamertag?

Has anyone enquired about a genre specific Gamerscore World Record? Racing, Role Playing, Arcade Games, etc? I might go for something silly like that.

Another thought... I know some folks may create a new account that they plan on keeping, but for those going for a record on a new account they don't plan on keeping I think we should all get ones with Achievement Fest 2102 in the name:

    AchievementFest2012 Kinect
    AchievementFest2012 Partypeeps

    Etc.

I can't remember what the character limit is, so we could abbreviate to AF2012 if we had to but that wouldn't promote it as much.

Fshguy - We might be able to also apply and set the record for longest Kinect Gaming Marathon. The record folks love stamina attempts.

I will ask them but I am sure that would be okay... Currently they have a record for "Highest score on SoulCalibur IV (Xbox 360)" which is 395,480 BTW...

I have that on my list to ask Guinness. The guy is on vacation until Tuesday so we will wait until then at least.

I don't know the exact steps yet (still playing catch up) but you have to create an account here:

    http://member.guinnessworldrecords.com/register/login.aspx

Then you have to apply for the record called "Most Xbox 360 Gamerpoints Achieved in 24 Hours (individual)".

This process takes 4 weeks to approve. Please let me know when he fills it out and I will update the sheet.

UPDATE: I am working with Guinness to do one application for the event. That way we don't have to send more then one.

The max you can have is 15... "AchievementFest" is 15, lol...

For that you need to assume you can use PC games for this record... Another question on my list.

UPDATE: You in fact CANNOT use the PC or WP7 for this record.

We need to get a list of games cleaned up for use in this event.

Make sure to eliminate things like King Kong, using cheat codes, and other similar games.

Don't want anything included that could cause our contestants to be eliminated.

Ok guys, sorry for the delay in getting back. Our new son was born and is doing AWESOME. All is well.

I e-mailed Guinness my 9 questions I have and based on what he answers back I will have 3-5 follow up questions. No one else added any questions so I just submitted mine.

I am re-trying my luck with the group record. I think our original attempt was too complex. We had it down for most gamers to score the most points in 24 hours. So I think we should try something like this, most Xbox 360 gamers to play in one location at the same time.

There are records for "Most people wearing balloon hats" or "Most people wearing red noses" or even "Most people washing their hands - multiple locations".

I think we should be able to get most gamers playing in one physical location!! There is no current record for this so, if approved, we would set the record no matter what.

I will update you all when I hear back from him on all 9 of my questions.
