| It was a bit weird though, I think the Devs got a little angst with the gore. |

Until they decide that level 100 is too low as too many people have it and they raise it to level 250
I'm level....ZERO. |

#136 - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
@ General: I truly feel sorry for you if you're going to let your personal ban on COD titles keep you from playing this game. This is far and away the most exhilerating, jaw-droppingly amazing game I have EVER played. The story is absolutely riveting. The level variety is incredible--every new mission brings something totally unexpected and utterly cool. Spec-Ops mode is some of the best co-op gameplay I've ever experienced (I actually really hope they add more missions in DLC!). And although I haven't played MP yet, I hear it outdoes previous COD titles, which were already pretty much universally regarded as the best online play the 360 has to offer.
If that glowing review isn't enough to get you rethinking your plans to skip this game, you should know that they've really dumbed down Veteran difficulty compared to earlier COD games. It's still a little tough in a few places, but nowhere near as frustrating as the Veteran difficulty you know. There are no more infinite respawns, no more endless grenades, checkpoints seem shorter, etc. I am absolutely certain you can get 1000 in this game without much trouble.
Ideally you should play COD 4 first since Modern Warfare 2 is a continuation of that story, and for once you actually get to know and care about the characters (unlike COD2 where you play Random Russian Guy, Random Brit and Random Yank). COD 4 is a tough 1000, though. Mile High is no joke and some parts of the game are quite difficult. If you're concerned about completion, fire up King Yzerman and play on Recruit. You'll breeze through the game and get to see what made COD 4 such a landmark title, plus you'll get to know some of the key players in MW2. It will make the MW2 story that much better.
I know you're all about burning through games and gamerscore right now. I've been there. But this is one of those once-in-a-great-while games that's not to be missed. Seriously, if you pass this game up for easy crap games you may as well sell your 360 'cuz you're wasting your time. :) |

Well, after basking in the warm glory of everything I had accomplished in the realm of stats and leaderboards I realized that, like many things in life, the thrill was in the chase.
When you have your sights set on completing X number of games, pushing your completion percentage to the next tick mark or rising to notoriety on various leaderboards it's rewarding to make progress towards those goals. But once you've reached the peak, staying there becomes less rewarding and more tedious. In fact, a certain amount of paranoia sets in. You'll obsess over all the easy games that you "need" to play to stay ahead of the other stat junkies, and what was once fun becomes grinding work.
While I was still enjoying the chase I used to like mixing things up: a few easy games here, a few hard games there; some grinding boosting games, some games just for fun. It kept things fresh while I worked toward my longer term goals of completed games, completion percentage, 3v badges, etc. I always kept a few good games stockpiled so that I'd have something to fall back on whenever I got tired of punishing myself with particularly awful titles. One of those was COD 4. I waited months to buy it so I could get it on sale, and I waited many more months before I finally broke down and popped it in. Looking back, I think it was a mistake to put it off for so long. It's not like COD4 was incompatible with my gaming goals at the time, but I was so concerned about finishing off incomplete games and missing out on boosting sessions that I lost sight of the reason I got my 360 in the first place: because gaming is fun. It was dumb not to play one of the best games ever.
Anyway, I know you're still enjoying the chase. I think you're probably as close to my Gamerscore as you've ever been, and I'm actually looking forward to the day that I get to pass the crown to you as AZ's Top Gamer (that much less pressure for me, lol). I don't really expect you to drop what you're working on now, blow off whatever challenges you're in, etc. But I do know how you feel about COD, and after playing MW2 I'd hate to see you miss out on that game because of achievements and COD2. Infinity Ward has really broken the rules for how immersive and dramatic video games can be. Anyone calling themselves a gamer really ought to check it out. |
